The Quick Start Guide will get you going in a couple of minutes. This guide covers everything in more detail.Getting Started
Sign in (or create an account) from the menu. Once signed in, you'll see the main menu with these sections:- Map — the home screen, showing gates near you.
- Buy at the gate — Search Settings, Scanner.
- Sell at my gate — My Listings, My Locations.
- Account — your details, sales, and notification preferences.
- About — app version and legal information.
Finding & Buying Produce
The Map
The Map is where you browse what's available nearby. Each marker is a gate with active listings — tap one to see what's on offer there.Viewing a Stall
Every gate has its own stall, which opens inside the app, showing:- What's currently listed, with quantity and price (or marked free).
- Opening hours, contact details and a website link, if the seller has added them.
- Which payment methods are accepted — cash, card, or both.
Your Basket
Add items to your basket from a stall and adjust the quantity for each one — you can only add up to how much the seller has available. Your basket is per-gate, so if you're buying from more than one location you'll check out separately for each.Checking Out
When you're ready, tap Checkout. Which payment options you see depends on what the seller has set up:- Free — items priced at £0 are just confirmed, no payment needed.
- Cash — pay by leaving cash in the seller's physical honesty box. Only shown if the seller accepts cash.
- Card — pay online through Stripe, like a virtual honesty box. Only shown once the seller has connected Stripe.
Leaving a Thank-You Note
Before you check out, you can add a short note to let the seller know you appreciated their produce. It's optional, and the seller will see it against your order in their sales list.Search Settings
Save the places you check regularly — home, a relative's house, wherever — so they appear in the map search panel for quick access. Each saved search has:- A name and a position (postcode or map pin), with a radius of 1–15 miles.
- An optional email notification: turn this on to get an email whenever a new listing appears within that radius.
Scanning a QR Code
Every gate has its own QR code (sellers can find theirs under My Locations). Use Scanner to scan one and jump straight to that gate's stall — handy when you're stood in front of it.Selling Produce
Adding a Location
Go to My Locations → + Add Location. You'll need:- A name for your gate (e.g. "Front gate stall").
- A position — click the map, use Use My Location, or type a postcode.
- A postcode is optional but makes it easier for the map to find you.
Editing a Location & Its Stall
Open My Locations → Edit on any location to update its name or position, add a photo (photos are shown once approved), and fill in its Stall section:- Opening hours, contact details and a website link — all optional, shown to buyers on the stall.
- How shoppers can pay: cash into a physical honesty box (available immediately), and/or card payment via Stripe.
- Connect Stripe: card payments can't be switched on until you've connected a Stripe account. Tap Connect Stripe and follow the onboarding steps — the checkbox becomes available once that's complete.
- A QR code you can display or share, linking straight to that gate's stall.
- A Sales panel showing orders for that location, filterable by date.
Reporting a Location You Don't Own
If you spot a stall that isn't yours but should be on the map, add it and tick "This isn't mine — I'm just reporting a location I found." It'll show on the map for everyone, and it stays in your My Locations list — fully editable by you — until the real owner comes along and claims it.Claiming a Location
If you find your own gate already on the map (someone reported it for you, or it was released by a previous owner), open it and use the claim option to take ownership. If it's unclaimed, ownership transfers to you straight away. If someone else already owns it, they'll see your request under Ownership Requests in their My Locations and can approve or reject it.Adding, Editing and Deleting Listings
Go to My Listings → + Add Listing:- Type (fruit, vegetables, eggs, honey, plants, flowers, preserves, baked goods, firewood, other) and item name.
- Quantity and unit (each, kilogram, bunch, box, and more) — you can tick Hide quantity from buyers if you'd rather not show an exact number.
- An optional description and photo.
- Which location it's listed at.
- A price — leave it blank or 0 to give it away.
- Available to buyers — untick this to save the listing as a draft, hidden from the map until you're ready.
Managing Your Account
Open Account to manage:- My Location — your own home location, used to centre the map and as a default for "Use My Location" buttons. Set it by postcode or by dragging the pin on the map.
- My Sales — a combined ledger of every sale across all the locations you own, with totals and filtering by date.
- Notifications shown once you own at least one location: Email me when I make a sale (a short summary emailed to you after every sale) and Email me when a listing sells out (an email as soon as a listing's quantity reaches zero).
About & Legal
The About page shows the current app version and a short description, along with copyright and trading name information for At My Gate.Getting Help
- Card payment is greyed out at checkout — the seller hasn't connected Stripe yet, or hasn't switched card payments on.
- My listing isn't showing on the map — check it's still marked Available to buyers and that its quantity is above zero.
- I can't edit a location — you can only edit locations you own, or locations you reported as found until someone else claims them.
- A photo isn't showing yet — new photos need approval before they appear to other people; you'll still see your own while it's pending.
